FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me at emila.nelson@gmail.com or 615-538-8350.

1. What is included in a Full Body Massage?

A Full Body Massage typically includes the scalp, face, neck/shoulders, back, arms, legs, and feet. There will be individualized discussions about including the gluteal and pectoral areas in your session based on need and level of comfort.

2. Do I have to remove undergarments?

You will be asked to disrobe to your comfort level only. Please remember that you will be appropriately draped during the entire session. You can always ask for additional draping if desired.

3. Do I have to talk with my therapist during my massage?

Please don't feel like you have to chat during the session. I allow my clients to unwind as they need. Sometimes clients need to talk a little bit until they are settled, and some prefer to be quiet  as soon as they lie down. I let my client be the guide as I help the client find their ability to become still.

4.Are products safe for allergy sufferers?

I use a variety of cremes and gels, which are all paraben and cruety-free. They do not contain nut oils. Some main ingredients are sesame seed oil, sunflower seed oil, aloe vera extract, jojoba, avocado oil, green tea leaf extract, and apricot. Please notify me of any allergies when you make your appointment. Grapeseed oil is available upon request.

5. Do I need to bring a note from my doctor if I am under the care of a physician?

There are circumstances when correspondence from your doctor is necessary, so please relay all medical information on your health intake form. The following situations require a physicians note: if you have received any treatment for cancer including chemotherapy and/or radiation, or if you have had any surgery within the last 3 to 6 months and/or not released from your doctor. If you've been in any kind of accident within the last 3 weeks, please refer to Question 8. If you are in physical therapy, it is important that we maintain continuity of care, so that you receive the full benefit of each specialty. It is important to discuss these things with me when you make your appointment, so that we can proceed safely with your massage.

6. Is it safe to receive a massage after experiencing sudden pain (i.e. working out, lifting furniture, falling)?

It is best to wait at least 3 to 5 days after a sudden-onset of pain. Remember, massage therapy should not be construed as a substitute for medical examination, diagnosis, and/or treatment. You should see a medical physician, chiropractic doctor, or other healthcare practitioner to address concerns that are outside the scope of a massage therapist's practice.

7. Is it okay to receive a massage if I have a cold, start to have cold symptoms, or recovering from a cold?

It is best to wait 2 to 3 days after cold symptoms start. If you have a fever or are contagious, please wait 48 hours after starting antibiotics. I would highly recommend waiting until completely recovered.

8. Can I receive a massage if I've been in a car accident?

My policy is to have the client wait 2 to 3 weeks before receiving a massage after any kind of accident (car, motorcycle, ATV, etc). Symptoms may not present themselves immediately, and there would be risk involved if an injury is present. Please bring a physician's clearance if an injury is present.

9. How do you accommodate special needs of a client?

Please notify me of any special needs that you may have when you make your appointment. If you have hearing, visual, speech, or physical impairment, I will adapt the massage to your specific needs. Please let me know if you are uncomfortable lying on the table. I have additional pillows, including a breast pillow, that will allow for optimal comfort. If your primary language is not English, we may discuss the need for an interpreter to attend only the consultation unless the client requests the interpreter stay for the entirety of the session. If there is a history of any kind of trauma or abuse, it is best to discuss this with me before the massage begins in order to avoid any possible triggers. Let me know how I can modify the session to best serve you.
