"Me" Time isn't Selfish

Look at this adorable little girl! After an Easter hunt one year, my niece could barely keep up, but she was so determined to be a part of the fun. After coming back into the house, she quickly disappeared. And soon after, we found her here! Totally tuckered out!
From an early age, we all know this......."me" time is super important.
As we get older, here's what I don't get......saying "me" time is selfish. I know that in order to be my best version, I need rest. Have I been called selfish for taking "me" time? Absolutely! But, has that stopped me? Not one iota! Whether it's a walk alone, reading a book, or getting a massage, I need it. And, I won't apologize to those "me" time haters :) Ha ha!
I know what you're probably thinking. Do you have kids, Em? Well, I have my little Jovie :) Even though I don't have children, I am managing my own practice, running my household, and trying to keep up with my volunteer groups. Can I imagine how hard it is to have "me" time with kids? Barely, but I do know it is still just as important and just as unselfish. I think we all struggle with it. Whether we are single or married, kids or no kids, we all need to take care of ourselves.
Now, how do we do it?? The first step is accepting that taking care of yourself isn't selfish. So, just smile at those "me" time haters on your way to your massage or however else you rest today!
