Moooo-ve over Asthma: 'Whey' your Options

I'd like a strawberry smoothie made with milk but only if it's almond milk. And, I want the strawberries on the side. And I'd like to add whey protein but only if it's hydrolyzed. If it isn't, then no whey.... just the smoothie. Say what??

Trying not to be a Sally, I wanted to find out what was best for my lung health but at the same time find practicality and sanity. Haha.

In 2013, I converted from cow's milk to almond milk. With my hypoglycemia, I still needed a little protein. That was an easy switch. Then, I targeted yogurt. Ah, yogurt. It was convenient, a great source of protein, and a delicious treat. I hated giving up yogurt. But, slowly but surely, I did it. And now, I don't miss it. Lastly has been cheese. I absolutely LOVE cheese!! Who doesn't, right? I have cut back considerably, but I still love a cheese pizza every once in a while. But man, have ya'll tried Amy's No Cheese Roasted Vegetable pizza?? It's incredibly delicious!! Thanks, Amy's!

Off to my next adventure at a local cafe. I ordered a smoothie with almond milk. No, not like Sally ;) Well, kind of..... I asked for protein powder to balance the sugary drink. She asked, "Is whey protein okay?" I said sure... I didn't know what that was. Later that day, I had pretty extreme asthma symptoms and felt like I'd coughed up a lung. I remembered the whey. I researched and found that asthmatic athletes couldn't tolerate whey protein. I made the connection. Who knew about whey? Is this an inflammatory product, too? And whey is in so many products. Example.... I bought a bag of tortilla soup mix and it contained whey and casein. Why is that in tortilla soup??

I love you, Sally, but I don't want to order like you. Right? I've seen that a good recommendation is hemp protein, specifically Hemp Force, which controls the amount of sugar used.

So, to wrap up these last three blog posts, my asthma symptoms have significantly improved with these changes, most notably the mucous production. I'm in my 30's and I'm active. It's sad to think that eventually there will be no more cheese for me. Because as I get older, my lungs will need to be stronger and I'll have to 'whey' my options and say..... goodbye cheese.......
